The people of Pangot have a lot of names. For instance, they can be simply be referred to as Kumaoni since they are from the Kumaon region of Uttarakhand, India. The people of Pangot can also be referred to as ‘Pahari’, which is colloquial language meaning, people of the mountains. The people of Pangot are usually very social. This is evidenced by the fact that they usually have extended families, with the eldest male in a family usually being the family’s leader and representative. Women also had a special place in the Kumaoni family unit and were well respected. They were engaged in both household chores and work in the fields and farms.
